Meet your guide
Hi, I’m Jim — an electronic music producer, sound designer, mentor, mixing and mastering engineer based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with over 12 years of experience as an artist in the industry. With a Master’s degree from the Fontys Academy of Arts (Rockacademie), I’ve built and refined a complete end-to-end creative process, from raw ideas and field recordings to composition, sound design, vocal production, mixing, mastering, and immersive live performance with analogue and modular synthesizers, drum machines, Ableton Live.
As Malvae, my music has reached millions of listeners, climbed to #17 in the Spotify Viral 50 (USA), and been featured in international film productions like Netflix’s Terrace House Japan and the documentary King of the Streets. I’ve headlined shows in Melkweg, designed live audiovisual performances, and collaborated with brands, and fellow artists to bring deeply emotional, narrative-driven sound to life.
One of my most formative projects was Amazonas — an album built almost entirely from sounds recorded deep in the rainforest, reshaped through granular synthesis and advanced sound design into a complete sonic world. That journey reshaped how I hear — and how I teach.
But I’m not just a creator — I’m also a builder. I’ve grown my own audience to over 11K Spotify followers using independent strategies like Meta Ads and PR campaigns. I’ve released music both independently and through labels, giving me experience on both sides of the process: the artistry, and the engine behind it.
